P.O. Press Relocating Due to Maintenance Dispute Surrounding Black Mold in Rented Restaurant Space
MEMPHIS, Tenn., September 13, 2019 – P.O. Press, the popular restaurant located on the Collierville Town Square that is a Chef and Sommelier partnership focused on providing local ingredients, craft cocktails and a curated wine list owned and operated by Chef Jimmy Gentry and Sommelier Chris Thorn will relocate immediately due to the discovery of black mold and a maintenance dispute with the owner of the building at their current location, 148 N. Main Street Collierville, Tennessee.
After the recent discovery of black mold in the building and what the restaurant owners consider untimely action to address the black mold and other ongoing maintenance issues Gentry and Thorn are considering pursuing legal action if the dispute is not resolved and will be closing the current location of P.O. Press Friday, September 13 at 5 p.m. Plans for relocation are being expedited, however a new location cannot be confirmed at this time.
“We loved the building and location, but the safety and security of our guests and employees are of the utmost importance. We have tried to work with the owner for months on a number of maintenance issues that he was not addressing in what we thought was a generous amount of time. Once our contractors raised concerns regarding the presence of black mold, we took immediate action to inform the landlord in order to get it addressed and removed. When the owner did not remedy the situation in a manner or timeframe that we felt was appropriate or in the best interest of the health and safety of our customers and employees we made the decision to close and relocate. We will work with all customers who have pre-booked large parties to accommodate them through our sister company Paradox Catering and look forward to announcing our new location and opening date sometime in the very near future,” said Chef Jimmy Gentry.
P.O. Press opened on October 1, 2018 to great fanfare and has enjoyed great success on the Collierville Town Square for nearly a year. The restaurant offers local, fresh American fare with the menu changing as products such as house-aged meats and fresh produce are available and in season. The cocktail program is curated by expert craftsmen and features inspired craft cocktails ranging from classic drinks to the modern spirit forward. A vast bar offers the area’s largest selection of locally sourced and American regional spirits. The wine list relies heavily on domestic offerings by both the glass and bottle. Emulating the chef’s menu, we incorporate new wines expertly paired with seasonal dishes.
